Annual review 2023

Vyral Logo

Since our founding in August 2023 under the leadership of our dedicated chairman, Ass. Dr. Patrick Kirchweger, Vyral has experienced an impressive year filled with educational initiatives and scientific presence.

Suturing Courses and Summer School: Practice-Oriented Education

The year was marked by a series of suturing courses, playing a vital role in our training agenda. Starting with our first course at Ordensklinikum Linz Elisabethinen, followed by a specially designed course for resident doctors at the Barmherzige Schwestern Linz, and finally our third course, which attracted a mix of resident doctors and medical students. These courses, complemented by our participation in the Summer School 2023, provided participants with intensive hands-on experience while fostering exchanges between experienced surgeons and aspiring medical professionals.

Scientific Conferences: A Showcase for Research and Innovation

Our active participation in scientific conferences such as the 64th Austrian Surgeons Congress and the 39th ACO-ASSO Annual Meeting was a key part of our activities this year.

  • 64th Austrian Surgeons Congress: Here, we presented several research papers that received broad recognition. A highlight was Dr. Kirchweger’s award of the prestigious Georg Stumpf Scholarship for his LIQUIPANC project. Other successes included presentations on innovative approaches in cancer therapy and advancements in metastasis surgery.
  • 39th ACO-ASSO Annual Meeting: Our research in circulating tumor DNA and cytoreductive surgery was also highly praised. We provided important insights into the treatment of pancreatic and colorectal cancer and received several awards for our contributions.

These congresses offered us a platform to share our research findings and gain recognition for the hard work and talent of our members.

Outlook

The year 2023 was a crucial step for Vyral. We look forward to continuing our commitment to education and research in the coming year, with more courses, congress participation, and innovative research projects.
