We successfully conducted our new course, “Minor Surgery for General Practice,” specifically tailored to the needs of general practitioners. Held at the Barmherzige Schwestern Linz, it aimed to impart practical skills in minor surgery applicable in daily practice.
Comprehensive Topics and Practical Application
Participants had the opportunity to learn and practice a wide range of techniques, including:
- Local Anesthesia: Techniques such as fan-shaped injection of wounds and Oberst’s nerve block.
- Instrument Handling: Using surgical tweezers, needle holders, scissors, and other essential tools.
- Incision and Suturing Techniques: Learning proper techniques for incisions along the lines of skin tension and various suturing methods for optimal cosmetic results.
- Specific Procedures: Performing incisions and excisions for atheromas and abscesses, including post-operative care and recurrence prevention.
The course content was complemented by practical demonstrations, allowing participants to practice directly on models. This hands-on experience is crucial for enhancing the confidence and skills of physicians in minor surgical procedures.
