We are excited to report on the first successful suture course of the Vyral association as part of the Summer School 2023 at the Ordensklinikum Linz! From September 11 to 13, it was time for the participants to “apply theory in practice, learn basics, and experience case studies from practice”.
About the Summer School
The Summer School offered a diverse and varied program, which also included an evening event at both locations of the Ordensklinikum Linz. In addition to our suture and knotting course, there was an EKG course, a resuscitation training, a course on handling blood transfusions, bed-side teaching, a laparoscopic training center, and the opportunity to acquire clinical and practical skills. The offer was aimed at medical students from the 6th semester onwards. Participation was free, and meals were provided. All participants received a certificate of attendance.
The Suture Course in Detail
On September 13, in the morning at the Elisabethinen Linz Hospital, which is part of the Ordensklinikum Linz, the suture course we organized took place. Ass. Dr.in Antonia Fritz and Ass. Dr. Lukas Havranek held a brief introductory presentation and then led the exercises on various suture techniques: single button, Donati, and Allgöwer sutures, continuous and intracutaneous sutures. Finally, surgical knotting was also practiced. To make the training as realistic as possible, the exercises were carried out on pig skin. The participants were divided into three groups to ensure that everyone had ample opportunity to practice.
In view of the success of the course and the positive response from the participants, we are currently planning further suture courses at both hospitals of the Ordensklinikum Linz, initially for rotating doctors, KPJ students, and famulants.
